About.

Through painting, sculpture, and photography, Athéna Sadoun expresses her emotions and her vision of the world around her. Her artistic process, centered around the exploration of different methods close to her heart, places matter at its core. Influenced by her Indian, Moroccan, English, and French origins, Athena is naturally driven by her curiosity and fierceness to express what she feels. Keen to explore her emotions, she seeks to communicate messages through her art and wants to raise awareness of the 'self' at the heart of her work. Starting from her questions as an artist about our inner feelings, to what extent we show these to the world and the manner in which others viewed as being "different" are treated, she became interested in exploring how to communicate these sometimes contradictory perceptions through her art. She sought to address the difficulties faced by certain groups within our societies that impact an individual's perception of the world or the way that they feel about themselves.

The theme of her ongoing series entitled « Pure Conflict » is centered on the challenges faced by people struggling with mental illness and the manner in which they conceal traumatic events, creating their own "mental" world. Continuing her investigation into our inner feelings, of what leads to acceptance of who we are and understanding that past events and experiences define us, her other, recent work considers the themes of acceptance, of the feeling of not belonging anywhere and of toxicity disguised as love. Athéna is currently enrolled in her second year of the Fine Arts (BFA) programme at Parsons (The New School) in New York, and spends her summers in Europe.
